Building something for people can be easier than you think
The problem started at my older university where people had to search for the university restaurant (RU) menu everyday and everytime that they were in the line waiting for the restaurant to open.
I thought about that for a second and the restaurant needed to continue to post the menu in the university website for compatibility and legal reasons, so a complete substitute is uncessary and overly complex.
So the classical mind thought about an automate process that could alert users in a daily based, but also being triggered by the website updates.
The initial project was implemented using Tasker. An app that works really well with Android and root phones. It can give you access to an infinite store of tools and mechanisms to work with.
So the initial project literally used Tasker and a lot of scripting to enter the university website, copy the menu, format it and then send to a WhatsApp group. In that time, WhatsApp channels didn’t exist.
The project worked surprisenly well.
